Earth Child
I’ve always been fascinated with John Everett Millais painting Ophelia (1851) and the tragic story, from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, of her drowning.
I came across a friend’s photo and knew instantly I had to paint it as it reminded me of this painting. I wanted the viewer to feel a connection with the Earth. The bare skin grounding. Red auburn hair entwined in forage. The reds compliment the greens. A pure Earth child immersed and at one with nature.
